Unofficial Stanford Sphinx Naming Contest

For more than 125 years these two sphinxes have graced and guarded the lonely entrance to the Stanford Mausoleum.  As a boy I remember walking past the New York City Library Lions on Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street and being told that their names were Patience and Fortitude.  But after more than a century the Stanford Sphinxes have yet to be named.  The time has come to correct this oversight.

Welcome to the unofficial and unauthorized Stanford Mausoleum Sphinx Naming Contest.  The rules are simple, all you need do is post your suggestion for the names of the two Sphinxes on the HoSV Facebook link and explain why you think they are suitable.

The winning entry will be announced at midnight on August 31st, 2016.  To the winner goes the glory of naming the Stanford Sphinxes as well as one hundred dollars.  It could be you!  Feel free to post as many suggestions as you like.  What are you waiting for?
