Early California

Situated along the storied El Camino Real this lonely marker was constructed circa 1797 to alert travels to the side road leading to Mission San Juan Bautista.  Today few take notice of the adobe monument, and even fewer stop to visit, but it has always been one of my favorite places.  Movie fans might remember that San Juan Bautista was the location for the terrifying climax of the Alfred Hitchcock film classic Vertigo.
