It’s the Frito Bandito not the Cheeto Bandito!
The Frito Bandito’s exaggerated Mexican accent was the creation of the famous voice actor Mel Blanc. That would explain why the Bandito sounded so much like the cheese stealing Mexican–American border running Speedy Gonzales. Whereas Speedy’s main antagonist was the inept Sylvester J. Pussycat the Bandito often complained about being pursued by the FBI which of course stood for the “Frito Bureau of Investigation.” There was a time when just about every kid in America could sing the Bandito’s jingle.
Ay, ay, ay, ay! oh, I am dee Frito Bandito. I like Fritos corn chips, I love them, I do. I want Fritos corn chips. I’ll get them, from you.
Ay, ay, ay, ay, oh, I am the Frito Bandito. Give me Fritos corn chips and I’ll be your friend. The Frito Bandito you must not offend.
The Frito Bandito reinforced grossly offensive racial stereotypes and was justly retired. I wasn’t surprised when a political cartoonist thought to compare him to Donald Trump. However I was disappointed that the cartoonist got it wrong. It’s the Frito Bandito people not the Cheeto Bandito! Have we lost all respect for American pop culture?
