747 Flight Deck
The instrument panel of a Boeing 747 built in 1970. As a boy I’m sure I’d have been awed by the complexity. However that’s not how I see it now. I was appalled by the antiquated avionics. I recoiled in horror when I saw an ADF. If I ever have to fly an NDB approach in actual conditions in a pokey little Cessna 172 I’d consider it an emergency and they did that in a four engine jet with 380 people in the back. But consider this. This instrument panel is forty-five years old. That’s more than half the history of commercial aviation. This picture was taken at the Hiller Aviation Museum.
