Bad Earth: Casper the Friendly Ghost
Perviously I posted about Bad Moons; artwork, or altered photographs, that show the moon in an incorrect phase, orientation, or impossible position. But if there can be Bad Moons can there also be Bad Earths? I found this example of a Bad Earth on the cover of a Casper the Friendly Ghost comic book printed way back in 1969.
The shadows cast by the astronauts, lunar module, rocks, American flag and inside the craters all indicate that the Sun is to the upper right. However the sunlight on the Earth indicates the sun to be to the upper left. Such a glaring error!
I’m afraid I can be a hopeless science geek at times. Casper himself doesn’t cast a shadow and why should he? He’s a ghost! At least the artist got that part correct.
